Parents Building Unity

I am the mother of a seven-year-old daughter and an eleven-year-old son. I have been active in their school. This year I was the chair of what they call the Multi-Cultural Forum. Each month about twenty faculty and fifteen parents and administrators got together to discuss, topic by topic, racism, classism, sexism, homophobia, and name-calling. I taught them how to do dyads and small groups. Everyone loved the meetings, especially the dyads. Last night we evaluated the year, and everyone felt that we are finally talking about "real issues" in deep, personal ways.
